Canadian Punk Rockers Collaborate for the Kids Help Phone!

July 21, 2020

Featuring members of Sum 41, Chixdiggit, The Flatliners, Danko Jones, The Fizzgigs and so many more.

The Fizzgigs are excited to share their collaboration with a group of fellow Canadian punk rock musicians to benefit Kids Help Phone. The Canadian artists will be covering the 1980 Wipers anti-classic “Is This Real?” to connect with young people around the uncertainty, anxiety, and challenges of our current reality.

As artists are not able to tour right now The Fizzgigs along with their publicist Melanie Kaye had many discussions about how to stay connected with musicians across Canada, how the band could continue being productive and how to help those most in need during these challenging times. Melanie reached out to the artists and all immediately and enthusiastically confirmed to take part. As the submissions came in, the Fizzgigs began putting it all together.

“Between the impact of COVID-19 and the prospect of growing up in a world where systemic racism is an undeniable reality, the kids have more questions, anxieties, pressures, and problems these days,” says Dean Rud, bass player of The Fizzgigs. “For many, home is not a safe place, the outside world doesn’t yet feel like a safe place, and isolation from their social groups has amplified the normal challenges of growing up.”

Recording their parts in isolation, the collaborators’ efforts will debut on Exclaim! https://exclaim.ca/ July 30th for the exclusive premiere and on July 31st, 2020, on all social platforms with viewers directed to donate via the campaign page on Kids Help Phone’s website. Kids Help Phone is projecting up to 3 million interactions with young people in 2020, a significant increase from the 1.9 million interactions in 2019. The funds raised through this collaboration will support Kids Help Phone’s professional counselling and text-based support, so that when a young person reaches out for help, someone will always be there to answer.
