Public Animal release sophomore LP Palace Arms Friday, October 28, 2016 via Yeah Right! Records

Palace Arms

In winter of 2015, Public Animal took over the Tragically Hip’s Bathouse Studios outside Kingston, Ontario, where esteemed engineer Nyles Spencer helmed a feverish four-day session. Over the following spring and summer guitarist/vocalist Ian Blurton manned overdubs and mixed the resulting ten song opus at PA’s Toronto home, ProGold Studio, before passing things on to Brad Boatright (Sleep, Pentagram) for mastering at Audiosiege, in Portland.

A series of Palace Arms teaser videos (shot/edited by drummer Ryan Gassi) has launched on Youtube and Vimeo, with more on the way. Early October will bring the debut of Palace Arm’s first single, It Don’t Seem Right, which is backed with a non-LP B side, an April Wine cover.

To celebrate the release of Palace Arms, Public Animal is throwing a Halloween-themed launch party at Toronto’s legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Friday, October 28. The evening will see Public Animal take the stage to play Palace Arms in its entirety as the first set (9:45). They will be followed by Get Hip recording artists PowWows and the Sunset Strip serenade of Diemonds (Napalm Records) with DJ Tim Perlich spinning jams all night.

After midnight Public Animal returns to the stage to play the ’70s soundtrack of cult-classic flick Dazed and Confused, with a slew of special guests. On the roll call are members of Cursed/Sect, By Divine Right, Cross Dog, Controller Controller, Diemonds, Battery Heart, The Shanks, Bella Clava, The Old Salts, Catl, Volur, Mokomokai, and Midnight Towers plus Moe Berg, Samantha Martin, Sam Cash, Thom D’Arcy, Gregory MacDonald (Limblifter/ Sloan), Heino!, Dani Nash and more. Advance tickets available at Rotate This/Horseshoe front bar ($10) or at the door ($12).

Public Animal

Formed in 2012 from the ashes of Tricky Woo, C’mon, Bella Clava, Lying Cheats, Change of Heart, Starvin’ Hungry, etc., Public Animal was named after an Alice Cooper song. Their high energy show finds vocalists Ian Blurton and Caitlin Dacey layering fuzz guitar and distorted organ over the groove-oriented rhythm section of Eric Larock and Ryan Gassi. The four diverse writers have built a sweat-soaked shrine to ‘60s/’70s rock, a greasy machine held together by strands of psych, pop, prog, garage, doom, shoegaze and soul. They have released records on Yeah Right!, Teenage Rampage, No List/Noise Agony Mayhem, Squirtgun in Canada and Electrohasch in Germany.
