Rusty at The Bovine Sex Club!
The Bovine Sex Club is proud to announce on September 16th Rusty will be performing! This will be part of the Bovine's 25th Anniversary Series. The 25th Anniversary Series is yearlong celebration because what club likes to keep the party going more than the Bovine?!
Rusty 's lead singer Ken MacNeil had this to say about his history with the Bovine Sex Club "The Bovine has always felt like home to me, even more so now that I don't live in Toronto ,a really fucked up ,unhealthy home that you sometimes don't even remember being at. Keep up the good work Darryl!"
Rusty formed in 1994 in Toronto. Rusty was formed from the ashes of One Free Fall. That band's bassist Jim Moore, drummer Bob Vespaziani and singer Ken MacNeil continued rehearsing together in Toronto's Kensington Market area. After teaming with ex-Doughboys member Scott McCullough -- Rusty was born. The band's debut album, titled 'Fluke', found the Handsome Boy – TAG (US label) release distributed by BMG in Canada and through Atlantic Records in the States. On the heels of the album's first single, "Misogyny", filmmaker Bruce La Bruce liked the song so much he used it in his film 'Hustler White'. The result of that association led to a Much Music award-winning video for the song (a collage of scenes from the movie) and pushing 'Fluke' to gold status in Canada. After more releases and touring the band broke up in March of 1999. The last three years there has been Rusty shows popping up here and there as well as yearly Horseshoe Tavern gigs and a 2015 CMW secret show at the Bovine in Toronto. Now under new management L.A. based Black and Blue (Sebadoh, Lemonheads, Men Without Hats) Rusty are demoing new tunes for an album release in 2016.
